Resource Sharing (Interlibrary Loan)

Resource Sharing

Resource Sharing (also known as Interlibrary Loan or ILL) is a service where the University at Albany Library borrows books, articles, and other materials from other libraries. When there is an item you would like to borrow and it isn't owned by our Library or access is unavailable, you may be able to borrow it through Resource Sharing. The Libraries also scan articles and book chapters from our print collection as part of this Resource Sharing service.

The mission of the Resource Sharing Unit is to support the research and teaching needs of the University at Albany academic community, by expanding the range of materials available for scholarship beyond the physical and electronic collections of the University Libraries. The unit provides article delivery and short term loans from a vast network of libraries and document suppliers on a local, statewide, national, and international basis.

This service is subsidized by the University Libraries, and there is no cost to patrons for Resource Sharing orders. However, due to the increasing costs of resource sharing, Resource Sharing staff may contact patrons about expensive requests and suggest alternatives.

Materials should be requested through the catalog whenever possible, but ILLiad, a software program used by the University Libraries for Resource Sharing services, can be used for material that cannot be found in a catalog search.

All faculty, staff, and students are eligible for this service.
