Electrical and Computer Engineering: A Guide to Library Resources

This guide contains important library resources for electrical and computer engineering. However, it is not a comprehensive guide.

Questions About the Libraries?

Off Campus Access to Electronic Resources

While on campus, you're on our network and connected to our access of ebooks, journal, and database subscriptions.

While off campus, click links from the library website to connect to our electronic resources. The links are configured to prompt you to log in with your UAlbany credentials. If a database or journal is asking you to select your institution from a dropdown menu, that isn't the way we authenticate. It should the same as the usual UAlbany log in screen.

If you're off campus and encountering a paywall, try pasting the resource's title (article, book, etc.) in our main search box on library.albany.edu. If we have access, you'll see a link that will prompt you to log in for access.

Some of our subscriptions let patrons read journals on the journal's website, but others give access in other library databases. If you're ever unsure about our access, paste the resource's title into our search box to check our access.

You can always use our 24/7 chat service if you have any questions. It's always a human librarian answering questions in the chat!

Searching Strategies

Start with a broad keyword search, and narrow your results as needed.

Identify a few keywords, or main concepts, about your topic. For instance, if you're interested in antibiotics used to treat tuberculosis, your keywords are antibiotics AND tuberculosis. Enter those in our main library search box or in other databases.

Add synonyms to broaden your search, if needed. For instance, (exoplanet OR extrasolar planet) AND (JWST OR James Webb Space Telescope)

You can filter in most databases, usually on the lefthand side of the screen. Popular filters include publication date, resource type, etc.

Subject headings are terms that have been applied to books, articles, media, etc. to describe what they are about.  Searching by subject headings rather than keywords can lead to better results.

If you find an appropriate resource, scroll to the bottom of the record to view the subject headings assigned to it.  Clicking them will conduct a search of that subject heading.
