TEDx Talks. (2016, December 2). Why comics belong in the classroom | Gene Yang | TEDxManhattanBeach. YouTube. Retrieved from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz4JqAJbxj0
Gene Yang, a former teacher and graphic novelist, talks about how teachers would discourage the use of comic books and graphic novels in the classroom as they "didn't belong" there when he was a student. But, as a teacher himself, he learned that that was not true and instead encouraged students to use comic books and graphic novels as educational mediums and tools. He explains that students now grow up in a visual culture, so they are more in-tune to gain information that way, which is where comic literature comes in. Comic books and graphic novels encourage students to learn and read, and even visit the library and take out books.
