This is a true story of a woman names Irena Sendler who risked her life many times to help free children from the Ghetto's during Hitler's reign. It tells of her work in the 'underground' where she and a group of others were able to smuggle children out through the sewer, in coffins, and a tool bx. Irena's story was never told until the 1980's when the children she saved came forward to describe how she saved them from their ultimate deaths. This is an easy read for middle grade students to give perspective on the impact some generous people had on many lives. This book can be rented from the internet archive at no cost.
