These websites and blogs are a great way to get quick information on SoR and how to implement strategies right away in your classroom. Educators often share what works best for them based on what the research says.

The Science Of Reading Research: An Overview And Explanation — The Real-Life Teacher: The Real Life Teacher, Nicole, shares an explanation of SoR. She provides info-graphics which would be helpful when explaining what SoR is to someone who may not be familiar. Nicole shares 4 key concepts about SoR all having to do with how the brain works to make reading and writing happen. She discusses the importance of SoR and links information on instructional strategies. 

The Science of Reading: a Phonics Lesson Plan Template for Small Groups - Teacher Professional Learning | Literacy, Math: This blog post explains SoR and the importance of it. Reading instruction should be systematic, explicit and deliberate based on SoR. This blog shares a six-step phonics lesson plan which is systematic and explicit. It is meant for small group instruction. There is a downloadable template that you can begin using right away. 

What Is the Science of Reading?: This website explains the SoR and shares the five key components of it  including, comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, phonics and phonemic awareness. It also shares the three key elements of phonics instruction which are explained in detail. Examples of what this looks like during instruction are available. This website also includes information on free webinars for educators to attend. 

Evidence-Based Science of Reading Strategies for Instruction | Lexia: This blog discusses how to teach reading and the components of structured literacy which uses the elements of SoR. An explanation of key terms are included which are extremely helpful to educators who are new to SoR. They include, explicit, systematic & cumulative, decoding, phonology, orthography, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse. It also offers professional development resources in other blog posts. 

Children’s Books to Explain the Science of Reading - The Literacy Nest: This blog shares two children's books that explain in kid friendly terms how children learn how to read. The author of this blog gives information about each book and includes a video at the end about the books. There is also a link to her podcast about ways to teach children to read.
