Introduction

The purpose of this LibGuide is to provide anyone with a curiosity about the history of abstract art with a way to access information about this exciting subject.  The origins of abstract art can be traced to the early 20th century art scene where the likes of Wassily Kandinsky and Joan Miro broke down barriers in creating this unique art form.  Some of the resources in this guide are introductory in nature and can be enjoyed by just about anyone with a desire to learn.  Most of the sources, though, are geared towards an audience of advanced art history graduate students who are looking for a deeper understanding of this particular art genre.  There are links to a variety of resources including databases, journal articles, books, and videos.  The LibGuide can also serve as a starting point for advanced studies.  The links contained in this LibGuide are intended to provide a pathway to informative resources for anyone interested in the origins of abstract art.
