Emotional Intelligence in the University Libraries

Best practices, resources, and information

Welcome

Welcome to the Emotional Intelligence in the University Libraries official LibGuide

In January 2024, the University Libraries held a two-day workshop on emotional intelligence (sometimes referred to as EQ). The training provided staff and faculty with hands-on lessons in developing emotional intelligence, as well as in understanding its importance in the workplace. This LibGuide serves as a companion to that training. Specifically, this guide introduces some best practices and resources.

Before exploring the LibGuide, here are a few points to consider:

  1. This guide was designed for library professionals by library professionals. In no way is this guide exhaustive, and it may not be useful for the general public, but it has a representative flavor of EQ best practices for an academic library audience.
  2. The landscape of emotional intelligence research is constantly changing. As a result, this LibGuide is iterative in nature. It will never be a "finished product". It is instead a living document.
  3. You are welcome to offer feedback, edits, or suggestions. Please contact Tyler Norton (tnorton@albany.edu) for updates.
