Scholarly Metrics

This page describes the various means of searching for cited and citing references, measures of influence and impact, altmetrics and bibliometrics.

ProTips!

Find cited references by searching for each publication separately.

Using the author search will result in a lower count because it misses:

  • citation variants
  • sources not indexed in the database

Web of Science training videos are available.

If you have questions, please consult your subject librarian.

Preparing a Citation Analysis

To conduct a cited reference search and prepare the citation analysis required by the University’s Procedures for Promotion and Tenure Review, use the Web of Science database.  Your subject librarian can advise if other databases would also be appropriate.
