With special thanks to Catherine McTague, University Art Museum, and Greg Bobish, University Libraries, for their vital help in preparing this guide.
Wikimedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female editors and articles about and of interest to women. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.
Let’s change that. Join us for a communal updating, via Zoom, of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism. This edit-a-thon is co-sponsored by the Information Literacy Department of the University Libraries and the University Art Museum.
Never edited in Wikipedia before? We will help get you started! This guide provides links to tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian and to relevant reference sources about female artists, including those with connections to the University Art Museum. Join us on March 29th between 2:30-4:30 PM EDT for a brief orientation and assistance as you start editing. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate!
Please register for the edit-a-thon and register as a Wikipedia editor for the event.
