IST 605: Creativity & Leadership

This article explores different ways of understanding leadership. Twenty one interviews were conducted with professionals and managers. Patterns were observed in the data and organized into 6 categories that were arranged in order of increasing complexity. The authors suggest that the findings can be used to make improvements to leadership development programs.

The authors of this article conducted 6 studies to explore how and why the preference for a particular leadership style changes based on social context. Prestige-based leaders rely on knowledge and expertise while dominant leaders rely on assertiveness and formal authority. Overall people prefer to have prestige-based leaders. However, support for dominant leaders increases during times of intergroup conflict.
