This guide is intended for UAlbany undergraduate students unfamiliar with art history and those majoring or minoring in art history. Examining this guide will help you identify what search strategies and resources are beneficial for studying art history. There are several basic and advanced search strategies that can assist you in performing efficient searches that can be used throughout your academic career. The resources included are databases, journals, websites, books, videos, and podcasts. These sources cover various topics within art history, such as artistic movements, influential artists, and cultural context. They are beneficial for accessing scholarly literature, museum collections, and high-quality images of artworks. Some resources provide a general view of art history, while others are subject-specific. A major goal within this guide was to highlight not only Western art history but non-Western art history since it is often neglected in literature. Using this guide will help you gain a deeper understanding of art history by offering a variety of search strategies and resources as a starting point.
