IST 605: Creative Writing: Craft & Industry Resources

Fiction, Poetry & Creative Nonfiction

Introduction

This is a guide on creative writing craft resources, industry resources and search tools & tips focused on the fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction genres.

Creative Writing refers to the composition of artistic or otherwise original writing. This differs from academic writing which seeks to analyze, journalistic writing which informs, and technical writing which describes processes; creative writing, on the other hand, can choose to fulfill these or other purposes but is marked instead by its immersive nature, aiming to show, rather than tell, stories or moments. In this way, creative writing is guided by diverse composition techniques as much as it is by intent.
