IST 605: Amigurumi and Crocheted Dolls

This is a libguide about everything related to Amigurumi. It is especially helpful to patrons of the Crandall Public Library

Amigurumi!

Introduction

Amigurumi! These are Japanese crocheted dolls, they are often objects or animals knit to have expressive faces. They have become popular in the last few years due to a resurgence in crafts hobbies. This guide is meant to help patrons of the Crandall Public Library on the topic of amigurumi dolls. Since the library has a collection of amigurumi dolls, patrons might want to find information about what the dolls are, where they come from, and how they are relevant today. This Libguide will also provide sources that teach them more about amigurumi, but it will also inform users about resources and tools they can use to do their own research. People of all ages should be able to use this guide, not only to understand more about amigurumi but to get an idea about how they use different resources for research.

This guide will overview a couple of different catagories that are about amigurumi or that they are present in. The guide starts with an introduction to the historical background of amigurumi, this is followed by some news articles that involve stories with amigurumi, and some fiction that was written about the dolls. The last half of the guide is dedicated to books and collections found in the library, so this includes the crochet guides that are on offer and details about the amigurumi collection.
