Amigurumi are crocheted dolls of items and creatures that have faces on them. Here are some examples of Amigurumi being constructed and put on display in exhibits. This is a good place to start to see the variety of shapes that they can take. The video on constructing Amigurumi is a good way to see how it fits in with crochet as a whole.

This is the website Resobox, which is a Japanese cultural center and gallery that is based in Queens New York. This is where the Crandall Public Library received its collection of amigurumi dolls. This website details the amigurumi exhibit on endangered organisms that was on display between December 2019 and March 2021. Although the exhibit is no longer running, this website explains what amigurumi are and their place in Japanese culture. There is also a video on the website that does a good job of showing how artists from around the world are producing amigurumi, and it also shows a variety of dolls as examples. Resobox is a Japanese art and culture organization that was founded in 2011 to spread the artistic techniques of Japan to the people of New York City. They offer classes to give art lessons and sometimes sell some of their pieces. -

It will inform you about all the steps it will take to crochet a small ball. The video also informs about proper crocheting techniques, the tools you will need, as well as how to read crochet notation that is found in many guidebooks.
Search Tips
Boolean Operators: These are helpful when searching for creating searches for specific items. I will briefly go over the operators AND and OR to string a basic search. AND is used between two words to expand a search to include both words in the result. This means that results containing both words will show up. The Operator OR can be used to specify sources that include one word or another. OR is useful for broadening searches to look for other words that a source might use.
Google is a good source for finding a wide variety of information. To use Google more effectively, make sure to use Boolean operators such as AND / OR to search for sources by including or excluding certain words or phrases. You can use "" between a phrase to search for exact phrases and "-" can be used to exclude certain items from a search.
Words/phrases: Words and phrases that you can use to search for amigurumi through Google include: crochet doll, amigurumi, and knit doll. These words and phrases can be combined with other words depending on what particular item you might want to search for.
