The Key To A  Good Search Is Knowing What You Are Looking For:

Use The Following Terms to Narrow Your Search For Challenged, Censored, or Banned Books in Schools:

  • Book access

  • Dewey Decimal System

To have specific search terms and the most relevant information retrieved, specific phrases should be used together.

Try The Following Techniques:

  • Boolean Operators
    • Using AND between each keyword will help narrow the search and results will be more relevant
      • Book AND Banning AND Representation
      • Book AND Challenges and Racism
    • The word AND can be added manually, or under an Advanced Search, users could enter one keyword in each field
    • Use OR for similar terms
      • Book AND Banning OR Challenges
  • Date Filters
    • It is important to have the most current references-- especially when looking at legislation
    • Filter information by date or date range to ensure the most recent data is used
