IST 605: Dante Alighieri and the Divine Comedy

This LibGuide will serve as a place to find information related to the Italian poet, Dante Alighieri, and his most famous work the Divine Comedy. This LibGuide will include information about Dante Alighieri's life, exile, muse, and his literary works, focusing on the Divine Comedy. 

Dante Alighieri was most likely born in or around the year 1265. His exact date of birth is unknown. He grew up in Florence and became involved in politics at a young age. He was later exiled from Florence for political reasons. Dante's most famous work, and arguably one of the most famous literary works in history, is La Divina Commedia, The Divine Comedy. The Divine Comedy is an epic poem, published in 1321, about Dante's fictional journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. This work was one of the first to be majorly published in the Tuscan Italian dialect, breaking away from Latin, which was primarily used in published works.
