Navigating the healthcare system can be extremely overwhelming, and many college students find themselves having to find and access healthcare independently for the first time. This guide will provide resources to cover topics including:

  • How to find medical care

  • How to select, access, and use health insurance

  • Patient’s rights and how to exercise them

  • HIPAA standards

  • Health Literacy

The resources within this guide are intended for use by University at Albany students navigating healthcare independently for the first time, or anyone unsure how to navigate the healthcare system. Some of these resources are accessible through a UAlbany account, such as database use linked to the University Library resources. However, many resources contained within are openly available on the internet. Articles, databases, videos, and more included in the resources, and descriptions can be found in the Resources section. Additional tips and guidance about searching for more information can be found in the Search Strategies section.
