Welcome to this beginner’s guide to learning the Yiddish language. As Yiddish is classified as an endangered language, there are a limited number of resources available for new learners. Many of the resources that are available are decades old, and it can be difficult to know where to begin. This guide is intended for language learners who are just starting out but are unsure of what resources are out there. Through this guide, Yiddish language learners will be connected with resources to get a brief overview of the history of the Yiddish language, learn the Yiddish alphabet, find the Yiddish textbook and/or dictionary that is right for them, and gain access to different databases that will aid in learning.
