Hello, my name is Aubrey and I am a library information science student. I was raised in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and the Adirondacks of New York.
Both of these regions were previously occupied by Indigenous people; the Cheyenne & the Ute, and the Mohawk of the Haudenosaunee, respectively.
As a creative writer and library student, it is important to advocate for the authentic representation of Indigenous people after a long history of colonization.
If you have questions about this guide or the resources within it, I invite you to e-mail me at ASlaterpryce@Albany.edu
The collection of sources is split up into five categories; Print, Digital, Audio, Video & General Writing Resources.
Print: These items are available as loanable books at the University at Albany's Library or through Interlibrary Loan.
Digital: These resources are available to anyone with access to the Internet.
Audio: These items are audio based resources such as musicals, albums, radio shows and more.
Video: This group features video based resources which can be both physical and online items.
General Writing: This group features resources related to the intersection of writing and underrepresented populations.
All of these may be used for creative writing or other art making pathways like painting, filmmaking, music production, and more! With more authentic information used when representing Indigenous people, there will be more accurate and meaningful pieces of art circulated among us all.
