IST 605: Educational Benefits of Video Games

A launchpad for research on video games in the context of education and development.

Introducing: Video Games with Educational Merit

The video game industry is massive, and there are countless titles for numerous systems. Many of them contain educational value. Some of these games are specifically designed with education and improved cognition in mind as the primary focus, while others are designed with these as a secondary feature. In some cases, games can provide cognitive and educational value even if that wasn't the intent. In this section of the LibGuide, I'll provide for you a number of titles/series that have educational merit, though this is not an exhaustive list.

I'm splitting this into two subpages: one for "juvenile" games, those with ESRB ratings of E-10+ and below, and one for "advanced" games with ESRB ratings of T and above. Please note that these subpages are my own groupings, specific to this LibGuide. See the Supplemental Information subpage under Additional Resources for more information on the official ESRB rating system of North America.
