Faculty Library Guide

Reserves

The University Libraries offer electronic and traditional reserve services.

  • Reserves for Faculty
    • For placing items on Physical reserve, fill out this form. This form is intended for requesting items that the University Libraries own.

    • For placing a personal copy on reserve, please go to the circulation desk and fill out a form available there.

    • You can upload or link to content directly in your Blackboard course or Adding Electronic Reserves via Blackboard.

    • We can scan chapters from print books you were planning on placing on physical reserves or work with ITLAL to digitize video content for streaming. Entire books cannot be digitized due to copyright restrictions.

    • For books the University Libraries do not own in digital format, contact your subject librarian and provide information about the book along with course title and course number.  In some cases, we may be able to acquire an unlimited access ebook for you.

Additional Helpful Strategies Recommended Include:

  • Upload personal copies of articles and book chapters. Reserves staff can assist with scanning content, if needed.
  • Provide permalinks to any e-books, articles, streaming media, or other resources in the University Libraries’ collections which can be found using our Search tool, our e-journals, or our databases.
  • Use the Open Access Button to see if an article is freely available online.
  • Request material through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) if the article/chapter cannot be obtained through our Search tool or Open Access
  • Adopt, adapt or create a SUNY Open Educational Resource (OER). OERs are any resources available at little or no cost that can be used for teaching, learning, or research. For more information on OER and additional resources outside of SUNY, please visit our OER LibGuide.
  • Seek the advice of the librarian who works most closely with your department.
