Brief Guide to Boolean Searches

 

Boolean searches use AND, OR, and NOT to improve relevance in search results: 

AND: Finds results with all keywords.
Example: labor unions AND globalization (both terms must appear).
OR: Finds results with any keywords.
Example: workers OR employees (either term can appear).
NOT: Excludes a keyword.
Example: union NOT Soviet (removes results with "Soviet").
