It is part of the found footage style of movie that is popular within horror cinema. The author compares the success of the Spanish franchise to other found footage movies that have also gained critical success in the US, like The Blair Witch Project. This article is written in more technical language, with many references to the academic study of film. This is a great source for someone who already has some background knowledge on film but will still be useful to beginners as well.
