ORCID

ORCID allows you to create a unique author identifier for yourself to specifically identify your publications. This guide provides information on creating and managing your ORCID profile.

Persistent Identifiers

Persistent identifiers (PIDs) are unique and permanent (or persistent) identifiers digital objects. Unlike traditional URLs, persistent IDs won't break over time.

PIDs can help:

  • disambiguate people

    • if you have a common name or change your name during your career, your publications are all still associated and discoverable with your unique ID

  • disambiguate organizations

    • funders and publishers use PIDs to correctly identify your institution

Types of Persistent Identifiers

Persistent IDs for people:
  • ORCID ID

    • create an author profile for your publications

    • many funders and publishers require that authors link to their free ORCID ID
