Located in the rural northern region of Upstate New York, The Adirondacks are an essential part of New York’s tourism and receive thousands of visitors each year. However, in recent years, the region has been strongly impacted by environmental concerns due to the large number of visitors, which has put a strain on the local wildlife. This guide will help to inform readers about steps they can take to enjoy the Adirondacks while putting less strain on the local wildlife. This research guide will also include local history of the Adirondack mountains, conservation efforts, hiking and safety tips, and a list of local landmarks for visitors and locals to experience. The guide will also serve to inform visitors of research opportunities and provide a variety of sources so readers can engage with a multitude of perspectives. Information will also be provided about how hikers can stay safe and what to do in the event that they need to be rescued.
