IST 605: Homeschooling

Research Tips and Strategies

There are many ways to get started with further research on homeschooling. Here is a list of popular search engines and places that you can begin (also see "Useful Databases" under the "Practical Resources and Databases" tab):

The University at Albany Library is also a good place to look for scholarly articles and research, even without being a student or faculty member at the school. You can filter on the left-hand side by "open-access only." This content anyone can have access to, and there is a lot of it!

Check your local library! Many libraries have both home-school and in-school educational tools and services, such as the Galway Public Library (part of the Mohawk Valley Library System in Upstate New York). This Library even has a homeschool liaison who can assist patrons with all kinds of homeschooling questions!

Another unexpected place that you may be able to look for answers to some of your homeschooling questions is Facebook. There are many Facebook groups available to the public, where seasoned homeschooling families can answer many questions. This would not be a good source for research purposes, but it would be beneficial if you are looking for a sense of community and guidance from others.
