 Purpose of the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections & Archives

The principal purpose of The M. E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives is to collect, preserve, provide access to, exhibit, and encourage use of the University Libraries' unique manuscript and archival materials, the official records of the University, rare books, and printed materials. These materials are acquired by gift or purchase and are available for use in your current and future research.

Scholars Archive, the University at Albany’s institutional repository, collects, preserves, and provides online access to scholarly research and resources created by University at Albany faculty, staff and students. The goals of this open access repository are:

  • Increase discoverability and ensure long-term, reliable access to the University’s scholarly output
  • Manage information through the research process and communicate research results to the broader scholarly community and to the public
