Role-playing games are a social activity, and they have a long history of hobby discussions. If there is information or advice that you can’t find elsewhere, one of the many ‘experts’ that frequent these communities will often be happy to answer questions for you, or have already answered that question years ago.
Reddit, as a website, is a mixed bag. This subreddit is the best of the RPG subreddits for new game masters and anyone with questions about running games. It contains a wealth of posts about the theories and practices of role-playing games, and though much of it is Dungeons and Dragons focused, much of the advice is applicable to any game. The size of the Reddit community is a factor in its favor, as questions often attract quick and numerous answers and attention.
Game Specific Subreddits
Many of the games previously listed have their own dedicated forums on Reddit. These subreddits attract people who love the game, have run it frequently, or who have questions about it. These subreddits are a good place to find answers to questions specific to a game, such as rules or setting questions. These forums are less dependable the smaller they are, however, and some games do not have a dedicated forum at all. Listed below are the existing subreddits for each of the games from the previous section.
There are many other forums on the internet specializing in role-playing game discussion, and of these, RPG.net and RPGGeek are the oldest and best moderated. These forums attract a more internet-native and dedicated audience than Reddit does, but also tend to have more complicated rules for posting, and less intuitive site design, which can make finding information more difficult. However, these sites contain information on RPGs that is difficult to find elsewhere. Of the two, RPG.net is older and larger, while RPGGeek boasts better content organizing.
