This document is a tip sheet created by the New York State Education Department's Office of Early Learning that describes how reading aloud with your child can help to improve their language skills, general knowledge, creativity, and their relationship with you. The document also includes strategies, activities, and additional resources related to reading aloud that can help parents and guardians to more effectively engage in the practice. While the authors provide some book recommendations, they are limited to books for children ages 3-5. That being said, the strategies and activities can certainly be used with children of all ages. This short and sweet tip sheet provides a great introduction to the research on reading aloud and helpful advice for parents and guardians who wish to prepare their children for school.
