Journals & Documents of note

The following are several important journals/publications of interest to public health, as well as some collections of journals that are freely available. (For a complete listing of print/online journals, and other resources, please search our online catalog by journal title.)

Individual titles:

-Bulletin of the World Health Organization

-Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). This report from the CDC offers a broad range of searchable reports, including some statistical data.

-World Health Report.  This important series from the World Health Organization (WHO) is available online from 1995+. The print version is also available in the Science Library (call number Science Library / RA 8 A265, lower level).

Journal collections:

Biomed Central (BMC). Offers 300 journals focusing on medical and public health topics, as well as other subject areas.

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Over 15,000 open access journals offer more than 5 million articles in a wide array of subjects.

Free Medical Journals. Over 3,000 journals are available - some are open access and others block access to current issues (anywhere from one month to two years after publication).

PubMed Central (PMC). This is a full-text, freely-available depository of almost 8 million journal articles in the areas of biomedicine and biology. Produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

World Health Statistics. The World Health Organization offers this resource from 2005-2010. Older years back to 1962 are in the Science Library (call number Science Library / Oversized * RA 651 A485, lower level).
